There is no doubt podcasting is becoming more mainstream, as people are becoming more familiar with New Media. The popularity of smart phones and set top devices like Roku and AppleTV are making podcasts easily accessible to the everyday user.

Podcasts are now viewed as “on-demand” television shows that interest the tech savvy and tech novice alike. As the popularity of podcasting has grown, so have the topics. Now you can find a podcast on just about any topic that interests you.

When I was asked to write a guest blog post, I really had to think hard about what I consider my “top 5” podcasts. I listen to many more podcasts than just 5 a week that are technology based.  These 5 are the top “must watch” podcasts on the list.  There are many other great technology podcasts out there.

Here is a list of my top 5 “must listen to” podcasts:

Tech News Today, is a show that covers daily tech news in an hour and is hosted by Tom MerrittSarah Lane, and Iyaz Aktahar.  As busy as life gets, I do not always have time to read the latest tech news in Flipboard.

Unlike some of the other talk tech shows that are 2 hours to cover just a few subjects, Tech News Today goes through a large number of subjects quickly and only goes into a few topics in great detail.

For a daily dose of tech news that you can listen to on your commute to work check out the Tech News Today podcast.  Tech News Today is part of the Twit.tv network of shows.

The Vergecast, is a weekly show that is done in what I like to call the “New York style.”  The Vergecast is part of the well known “The Verge” tech news organization.  The show features Nilay Patel who is the Managing Editor at The Verge.

The set for the Vergecast, has the podcasters in a glass enclosed studio sitting around a table.  Complete with no holds barred product reviews, this podcast has a little something for everyone.

What The Tech, is a weekly tech news show on the GFQ Network hosted by Andrew Zarian and Paul Thurrott.

Paul is the mastermind behind the winsupersite and Andrew is the founder of the GFQ Network. Don’t let Paul’s extensive knowledge of all things Windows and Microsoft fool you, they talk about all aspects of technology, especially their love and hate relationship with it.

This Week In Tech, the flagship show on the Twit Network and one of the original tech podcasts. This Week in Tech is the west coast brother of the Vergecast. Often laid back, host Leo Laporte brings in some of the most intriguing tech experts, which keeps me coming back weekly.

John C. Dvorak from Cranky Geeks, is a regular guest on This Week in Tech. John has what some have called “cooky paranoia”, but none the less it is entertaining and makes for an interesting show.

MacBreak Weekly is another weekly show on the TWiT network that I have been watching for a long time. I have been a fan of Mac products, but never a “fanboy”, for a long time and this show is how I keep up with the latest happenings at Apple.

Macbreak Weekly is hosted by Leo Laporte, and has the same West Coast style as This Week in Tech. I really enjoy some of the regular guest hosts on the show as well, most notably Andy Ihnatko of the Chicago Sun Times, Alex Lindsay of Pixelcorp and Rene Ritchie from iMore.

When I was asked to write a guest blog post, I really had to think hard about what I consider my “top 5” podcasts. For a more complete list of my regularly listened to podcasts you can visit: http://mikemyers.me/my-favorite-podcasts/ where you can see my must watch and listen list, as well as non tech podcasts that I regularly listen to or watch.  My list is very fluid and changes quite often, so check back every so often to see what I am listening or watching.

    Good job Mike!

I am not a big fan of TWiT, is that bad, but I really enjoy what Andrew is doing over at the GFQNETWORK!
