So you want to be an Internet Broadcasting star…

So you just finished watching your favorite Internet broadcast and now you're thinking ”why couldn't I do that ?” Well the short answer is YOU CAN. However, there are some things you want to do before drinking the kool-aid and running up your credit card on the best possible equipment. So let's slow down and examine the steps to getting started in the fabulous world of Internet Broadcasting.
Like anything worth doing, it's worth doing right. Now before you run out and start purchasing all the latest cool equipment that the guy at the Guitar center showed you, consider what your podcast going to be about? There are lots of people who want to get into Internet Broadcasting, but they don't have the focus or right idea’s. When you start down the path to the dark side (sorry visions of the Jedi code just over took me) there are a number of things to consider.
The idea of “if I build it they will come” is wishful thinking, Consider the audience that you want to reach. People want something new, and you can be certain that your audience will be looking for something that is unique and special. In order to build an audience for your show you need to take a good hard look at what you have to offer, which leads me to my next point. What are you passionate about? Everyone has hobbies and subjects they enjoy, and there’s a good chance that there are other like minded people who enjoy the same things that you do. Is photography your passion? Maybe you’re really into video games? Whatever the subject matter is, you can be sure that there are others with the same interests.
Do your friends, or family consider you an expert in the subject that you are passionate about? If you have answered yes then we have our starting point. Something you might want to consider is to spend some time and watch other Podcasts that cover similar interests as you. Take some notes on the things you like and dislike. Once you have this information in hand, you can move to the next step.
In my next blog post I’ll be discussing the steps that needed to get you started in the wonderful world in Internet broadcasting.

Thanks Richard, glad to see a series about getting into the world of internet broadcasting - will be passing this on to others that I know are interested, but don’t know where to start.

Thanks for that post man, it got me rethinking how I have been broadcasting and am going to stick with my passion of computer history and technology.
