Tom Leykis Returns, But Not to the Airwaves

LA shock jock Tom Leykis finally returns after a long hiatus, but this time the popular host cannot be found on the radio dial: Like so many other forward thinking broadcasters, he's now streaming live on the Internet. The 21-year veteran of the airwaves has revamped his site, blowmeuptom.com to stream The Tom Leykis Show 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and according to Tom his new Internet broadcast garnered more than 400,000 listeners in only the two week period since the launch the show.

Tom’s fans are celebrating his return after three years. In 2007 Leykis received an extremely lucrative five-year contract from CBS radio, but after only two years many of his affiliates buckled under financial woes and decided to reformat from talk to Top 40, leaving Leykis without a show, but with a nice paycheck - just as long as he remained off the air.

Tom used the hiatus as an opportunity to relax at his ranch and to develop his online broadcasting company, The New Normal Network. The day after his CBS contract ended, The Tom Leykis Show returned, bigger and better than ever

It’s important to note that Internet broadcasting was Leykis’ choice. Since his departure from terrestrial radio Tom has been inundated with job offers, but he wanted to create and distribute his own content the way in which he thought would most benefit his listeners and his brand. He’s expressed for a while that he was tired of the current state of talk radio and wanted something different. "We do not spend the whole day talking about conservative politics…That’s what talk radio has turned into,” says Leykis, and his show is certainly a far cry from old school talk radio.

The New Format

Never one to shy away from controversy, Tom spends each three-hour show focusing on what many fans consider essential man talk. From DNA paternity tests to methods of seducing women, the Tom Leykis Show is never short on content centering on the art of being male in the 21st century. Even after three years off the airways his popularity has not waned. For Leykis, the chance to create a live streaming network was preferential. He enjoys having complete control of the format and advertisers (and he also enjoys the chance to keep all the profits).

Although Internet broadcasting offers a dramatic change in the technical aspect of listening, Tom’s show has not changed. As always, Leykis spends most of the show answering questions and interacting with callers. Monday through Friday, fans can call in from 3PM to 6PM and speak to him live. Listeners can go to blowmeuptom.com to listen to the day’s broadcast at any time. The show is available through Windows Media Player or from the Tunein app for iOS or Android systems. For those that pay an additional fee to become subscribers, the Tom Leykis podcasts are available, so listeners can enjoy their favorite stream with CD quality sound any time of the day or night. Both Tom and his fans are excited about this new medium, which offers all the content of his popular radio show...only without the radio.
