Earlier today it was reported that Google is close to purchasing Twitch for $1 billion dollars. Twitch (owned by Justin.tv) is the world's leading video platform and community for gamers with more than 45 million visitors per month. Its connect gamers around the world by allowing them to broadcast, watch, and chat from everywhere they play.

It is also being reported by sources close to the situation that Google's (YouTube) purchase will be an all-cash offer and will be announced imminently. If this sale is true it would be the most significant for YouTube since it was acquired by Google in 2006 for 1.65 billion dollars.

Twitch and Google have declined to comment about the situation, but this sale does make sense since YouTube has been interested in live streaming for a number of years. Twitch is currently one of the top 15 users of bandwidth during peak hours in North America, growing from 0.46% of all "downstream bandwidth" in Fall 2013 to 1.35% by March this year.

What do you think of this possible sale to google? how will this impact gamers? Let us know on the IAIB Forum
