Are you tired of having your google hangouts in standard definition? Well Google has some good news. According to Gigom, Google is implementing VP8 encoding for Google Hangouts, which will allow Google to deliver 10-way video calls in HD quality. HD encoding is possible with the current H.264 codec, but the processing power requirement would be a lot more than what google is able to produce with VP8.

This move to VP8 also indicates that Google will be moving toward a plug-in free experience for Google Hangouts. Whenever you first start using Hangouts, you have to download a browser plug-in that enables it to work.

Users will start seeing changes in the coming weeks.
